About Us
Lake District Guided Walking offers holidays and short walking breaks in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Howgill Fells and Northern Pennines - all of which are within easy reach of Coldbeck House.
The accommodation is based at Coldbeck House, located in the delightful village of Ravenstonedale, which nestles at the foot of the northern slopes of the wonderful Howgill Fells.
Richard is the walking guide. He is a qualified Mountain Leader with 40 years experience of walking and climbing in these hills and mountains and is also a member of the Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team - one of the Lake District Teams dedicated to saving lives in the mountains of Cumbria. Richard has very detailed knowledge of this area and delights in showing his clients some of the quieter and less frequented ways up the popular peaks and also lower level routes in the valleys and around the lakes. Instruction in Mountain Navigation and Hillcraft are very useful skills which can be included in the itinerary.
The accommodation at Coldbeck House is second to none. The house itself was built in 1820 as a farmhouse and later converted into a gentleman's residence in 1890. The 2 acre garden offers an aura of peace and tranquillity and is home to red squirrels, woodpeckers and other wildlife. Coldbeck House is one of the few bed and breakfast establishments in Britain to hold Visit Britain's 5 star status and a Gold Accolade for excellence.
Richard's partner, Belle who runs Coldbeck House, has won many awards over the years, not least of which was the English Tourism's Bed and Breakfast of the year. You will be assured of the warmest of welcomes and hospitality and a wonderful base for your walking adventures.
